I just heard the news that Columbo actor Peter Falk died yesterday after a relatively short battle with Alzheimer’s disease progressing since its noticeable onset in 2007. Here are a few of my first thoughts on the subject.
- How sad this brutal disease has claimed yet another victim.
- How strange that the victim portrayed a detective with a brilliant mind for solving murders.
- Here is another example of how caregiving for those who are afflicted with dementia is made infinitely more difficult based on family problems and issues with family relationships.
- Thank goodness Peter Falk’s memoir Just One More Thing was released in 2006 to preserve his life story before dementia stole all his memories away.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family, friends and fans for their suffering through his illness the last four years and for their grief now. All I need to add is “just one more thing.” Rest in peace, Peter Falk.
