25 First-Rate Family Sagas from Entertainment Weekly

25 first-rate family sagas books

I’ve been making time to read again because it’s one of my favorite pastimes. Recently I came across a helpful list in the Fall Movie Preview 2014 issue of Entertainment Weekly that has helped me plan the next novels I’ll dive into! The list is titled “25 First-Rate Family Sagas” and includes some useful information to pick and choose:

  • Number of pages
  • Brief description
  • If the book won any prizes
  • If the book had a movie or TV adaptation
  • In what formats the book is available: ebook, CD, audible

I’ve found a few right away that call out for my attention. I’ll be adding these to my “to-read” list, which admittedly is already long:

  • And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini (reading this one right now)
  • The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
  • The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
  • A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley
  • The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
  • The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy

I’d also like to read the following classics, but the length of these novels does put me off just a bit since my reading time is so limited:

  • Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, 1048 pages
  • War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, 1296 pages

Take a look at the list if you’re interested in family sagas (click on image below to enlarge). Do you see anything here that begs you to read it? List courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, thanks!
