Coming Up Short on 2016 Reading Challenge
I set a goal of 24 books for my 2016 reading challenge, and I’m sorry to say that I missed it by four books. What a bummer! I’ve been so busy this year that my reading time was cut short, although I did try my best, especially in the last couple of weeks of the year with additional free time due to the holiday.
Looking at the list of books I did manage to read in 2016, there are few that stand out as favorites:
- Nonfiction: On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King–not only did this book have great advice on writing, it was also extremely interesting and surprisingly funny. I really enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone, writer or not!
- Fiction: tie between The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom and Me Before You by Jojo Moyes–both excellent and entertaining reads. And the book of Me Before You was better than the movie, by the way, although I thought the movie was good and followed the book well.
- Classics: Emma by Jane Austen–I was woefully short reading classics in 2016 as this was the only one I managed to get through. I need to make an effort to read more of these.
So here we are at the beginning of 2017, and I need to set another reading challenge. I’m going to stick with 24 books again this year and hope I can surpass it this time around.
What about you? Did you set and achieve a reading goal in 2016? And what was your favorite book of the year?
