Hometown donut shop provides the setting for a pivotal scene in a central Illinois story, offers book from four Springfield locations, and hosts book signing event February 25, 2017.
SPRINGFIELD, IL, February 15, 2017 – Springfield favorite Mel-O-Cream Donuts plays a supporting role in the new family saga novel Brought To Our Senses. A pivotal scene takes place in chapter 15 with a chance encounter in the local donut shop, resulting in the discovery of a shocking family secret with serious repercussions. To celebrate this connection with the story, Mel-O-Cream will offer the novel from its four Springfield locations and hold a book signing event on February 25, 2017.
“I needed a familiar location where it would make sense to run into an old friend and have a casual conversation,” says Springfield author Kathleen H. Wheeler. “I can’t think of anyplace more perfect than Mel-O-Cream, somewhere I’ve been a gazillion times since I was a kid, and a place where I’ve bumped into countless acquaintances over the years.”
In the story, four troubled siblings are torn apart and then brought back together by their mother’s tragic health crisis.
“We’re flattered to be selected as the meeting spot for such a crucial scene,” says Mel-O-Cream Donuts general manager Laurie Miller. “Mel-O-Cream started out as a family-owned business 85 years ago in Springfield, and we appreciate the inspirational message about the importance of family in this story. That’s why we’re offering Brought To Our Senses in our stores to share the book with our loyal patrons.”
Brought To Our Senses is available for purchase from all four Springfield locations of Mel-O-Cream Donuts on Laurel Street, South Sixth Street, North Grand Avenue, and in Fairhills Shopping Center. On Saturday, February 25th from 8 to 10 am, Kathleen H. Wheeler will sign copies of her book at the Fairhills Shopping Center store, and Mel-O-Cream will sweeten the deal with one free donut for every book purchased.
