Illinois Author Earns Next Generation Indie Book Award for Dementia Novel
Kathleen H. Wheeler’s poignant family drama Brought to Our Senses named a finalist in the First Novel category of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards.
Illinois author Kathleen H. Wheeler’s debut Brought to Our Senses has been named a finalist in the First Novel category of the 2017 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Known as the ‘Sundance’ of the book publishing world, the international book award competition recognizes the most exceptional books published independent of the “Big Five” conglomerates through small presses, larger independent publishers, university presses, e-book publishers, and self-published authors. The Next Generation Indie Book Awards are judged by leaders of the indie book publishing industry, including many coming from long careers with major publishing houses, to identify cream-of-the-crop books worthy of support to reach a wider audience of readers.
“Books winning the Indie Book Award are selected on merit alone, without regard for publisher, imprint agenda, or financial gain,” notes author Kathleen H. Wheeler. “This award embraces the authentic voices of writers willing to push the boundaries of creativity to deepen our collective level of understanding. I’m flattered for my novel to be honored in the company of such groundbreaking artists.”
In the poignant family drama Brought to Our Senses, four troubled siblings are torn apart and then brought back together by their mother’s tragic health crisis. Kirkus Reviews praises the novel as “A profound analysis of complicated family dynamics … Wheeler’s gripping novel is ambitious …” Midwest Book Review raves “Very highly recommended as a striking jewel that is a glowing standout … one of the most true-to-life, gripping accounts on the complexities of interconnected family relationships that has appeared in recent years …”
Brought to Our Senses is available in Springfield from a select list of locally-owned establishments supporting independents, including Mel-O-Cream Donuts, The Blue Door Artist Gallery, The Corkscrew Wine Emporium, and Vono Medical Supplies. The book is distributed nationally by Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Amazon, and all major online booksellers.
